FLOCKING FOR OUR FURRY FRIENDS! *Fundraiser for Jagger's Dream Fund* - Hillsborough County Animal Services!

Thank you for your interest in “Flocking For Our Furry Friends Fundraiser!”

In celebration with the one-year anniversary of the opening of Jagger Park- located at Hillsborough County Animal Servies (HCAS) on Falkenburg Road, beginning on March 24th, three local “Lawn Greeters” are joining together to raise money for JAGGER'S DREAM Fund.

JAGGER'S DREAM Fund was formed last year by Karyn Ringhaver, a volunteer at HCAS, who saw an urgent need to pay for the medical costs of many of the animals that were brought to the shelter. Some of the animals suffered from conditions that ranged from broken bones, heartworms, eye problems, and much more.

Ringhaver realized while working at the shelter that many of the animals could be adopted if their costly medical conditions were treated. This came to light during one of her volunteer days at the shelter when Ringhaver noticed an employee who consistently visited the "sick" wing to visit a yellow lab named Cookie that had heartworms.
Ringhaver asked the employee if she was going to be adopting Cookie. The employee explained that Cookie tested positive for heartworms and she didn't have the money to pay for the treatment, which can cost upwards of $750.

Ringhaver approached several of the volunteers and asked if they were willing to contribute towards the heartworm treatment so that Cookie could be adopted.

She raised enough money to pay for Cookie's heartworm treatment and she now lives happily with her new owner. And, the inspiration to form JAGGER'S DREAM Fund was born.

In the last year, JAGGER'S Dream Fund has paid for the medical treatment for 24 animals that have all been adopted. Without this fund paying for the medical costs, the majority of these animals would have been euthanized.

In fact, Ringhaver has adopted one of these animals she helped. In October 2008, Frazier, a 2 month old black terrier, too small to even know what he was, a mere 2.8 lbs., came in as a stray with a severe case of pneumonia. They were afraid he would not have lived through the night.
She got permission from the shelter vet to take Frazier to her vet to help this poor helpless animal. Frazier spent the night at the emergency vet in Brandon in an oxygen bubble. To everyone's surprise he rallied overnight but he still had a long way to go. Frazier received nebulation treatments every day for 2 wks after.

Today, Frazier is a healthy dog running and playing with her other 3 dogs of which 2 are rescues.

JAGGER'S DREAM fund, named after her yellow lab that died of bladder cancer in November 2007, continues to help offset the medical expenses of many of the stray animals - making adoption possible and affordable.
As you can imagine these medical costs are expensive. Thanks to many good people that believe in Ringhaver's efforts and with community support, she is able to continue her work. JAGGER'S DREAM Fund believes that every animal deserves a chance at life. Ringhaver knows she can't save all the animals, but she will take care of as many as she can for as long as she can.

Another volunteer has taken an interest in Ringhaver's dedication to the animals and is establishing JAGGER'S DREAM fund into a non-profit.
Ringhaver's orginal plan was to quietly take care of these animals but for some unforseen reason JAGGER'S DREAM fund was "just meant to exist". Obviously, there are many animal lovers that feel the same way.
